Despite going down to nine men in the second half, we can be incredibly proud of the fight and spirit in which we showed last night. We did unfortunately fall short to a 3-2 loss, but we can go into the next one holding our heads extremely high.
It was a crazy fixture full of goals, red cards and sin bins. The action was frantic from the first whistle to the last.
We had to fight back from early in the game, falling two goals behind within the first half an hour, despite having the majority of possession. A header from inside the box and a very skilful goal by Keane Barugh putting us two down.
However, we were able to pull one back before the break through Adam Dale with a tidy finish. But our celebrations were cut short as just minutes after, the referee was reaching for his pocket to issue a red card to Ethan Sutcliffe for an alleged stamp, as well as issuing a sin bin to Lewis-Simon Byrne.
We started the second half with nine men due to Lewis’ sin bin but that didn’t dishearten us as we were awarded a penalty that was coolly slotted into the bottom corner by Matthew Crothers to make it 2-2.
Shortly after Lewis has re-joined the game, the referee was reaching for his pocket again, this time to send off James Purfield for his second yellow card offence and we were suddenly back down to nine men.
We continued to show hunger and fight for the rest of the game, Morgan Bacon making a massive save to keep the game level, but unfortunately it was not enough as Keane Barugh would go on to double his tally for the evening and win the game for Stockport Town.
