MATCH REPORT: TEN goal thriller on the road

Written by Jacob Jones

We return to winning ways after a box office worthy game of football ending in a 6-4 away win at South Liverpool. This victory takes us our current season tally to 47 points, leaving us just two points behind Bury in second in the nwcfl Premier Division.

Going into the break, we had a three-goal advantage, the first of which coming in the fifteenth minute following a positive start that saw Lewis-Simon Byrne’s freekick rattle off the crossbar, Jack Worrall made sure that we would still break the deadlock with a first-time finish from inside the box.

We thought our lead had doubled not long after when Lewis had the ball in the back of the South Liverpool net, however the referee disallowed the goal for a deemed handball in the buildup.

Man of the match, Muis Bibire Bello would go onto double our lead in the first half however with a brilliantly worked goal by the team starting all the way from the back, leading to Muis picking it up on the halfway line and proceeding to execute a phenomenal 40-yard charge before calmly slotting it past the keeper.

However, we were not done there as just before the break Rob Worrall makes it three after getting on the end of a cut back from Lewis from the left-hand side.

There was no sign of us slowing down within the second half either as we continued to pepper the South Liverpool goal, Lewis Byrne getting his well deserved goal to make it 4-0 with a fantastic low driven left footed strike leaving the goalkeeper with absolutely no chance of keeping it out.

Just a minute later, Lewis had doubled his tally for the game, coming after Rob Worall steals the ball, laying Lewis off who takes one touch before placing it past the keeper making it five, we were in dreamland.

However, our hosts reminded us they are still alive and kicking as they pulled one back shortly after, much to the frustration of Morgan Bacon and the defensive line who saw their clean sheet evaporate before them.

We would go onto re-establish our five goal lead however, Crothers smashing it into the bottom corner after Muis once again does well to steal the ball and cut it back to him, making the scoreline 6-1.

South Liverpool would go onto end the game strong however, finding three goals making the result 6-4.

A fantastic away win in possibly our most frantic game of the season, however there is little time to celebrate as our attention must immediately shift to Monday night’s Macron Cup fixture away at Bury.
