MATCH REPORT: Chaddy put Barnoldswick to bed at Silentnight Stadium

Written by Jacob Jones

Last night, we continued our impressive start to the new campaign with an emphatic 6-0 victory against Barnoldswick Town on the road. This victory sees us move up in the standings to 3rd place, three points behind current league leaders, Padiham.

It did not take Lewis Byrne long to get back amongst the goals last night, running onto a ball played over the top of the helpless home defence, Lewis was the coolest head in the ground as he took it around the goalkeeper. However, there was still work for the attacker to do, with a defender on him very tight, but the inform Byrne was not phased by this, cutting inside and passing the ball into an empty net before mimicking Tottenham Hotspur’s James Maddison with his darts inspired celebration.

Benito Lowe would double our lead around ten minutes later, however we were not done yet in the first half, as we would compile upon our hosts misery when we were awarded a penalty, that Lewis Byrne converted after a Jorginho style run up, taking us into half time with a three-goal advantage.

Going into the second half with a hefty advantage, it would have been easy for us to take our foot off the gas and see the game out in the second half. But that could not be further from what occurred, Dan Mclaiughlin would meet an incredibly inviting Matty Crothers cross from the left-hand side with an equally as good header that left the goalkeeper without a chance as we extended our advantage to four.

Matty Crothers would further extend the margin, with a certain goal of the season contender. Crothers picks up the ball inside of his own half and with a single upwards glance, notices the goalkeeper off his line and takes on a shot that beats the keeper in extraordinary fashion.

We still had time for a sixth, Adam Dale joining the party at a late stage, with a classy finish to put the cherry on top of a very successful evening on the road for Chadderton.

Whilst we are very happy with yesterday’s result, we have little time for celebration as attention rapidly turns to Saturday’s FA Cup clash with Irlam.
