It was a difficult ending to 2024 for us, ending the year with losses to Bury and tonight’s opponents West Didsbury & Chorlton in the final week of 2024. However, we still sit third in the NWCFL Premier Division with a lot of football yet to be played before the conclusion of the 2024/25 season.
However, this week our attention turns to the Quarter Finals of the Manchester Premier Cup. Neither us or West Didsbury & Chorlton have ever won this competition, but we are highly motivated to change that this campaign.
It has been a busy week off the pitch with notable departures and incomings occurring. On Friday, we announced the signing of talented striker Harry Lynn on a season long loan from Radcliffe FC - along with the return of Goalkeeper Dale Latham.
We did also have to endure the loss of goal scorer Lewis Byrne after he asked to be released so he can join Bury Football Club after they made a seven-day approach regarding the striker in October.
Last time out against tonight’s opponents, it was a heavy 6-1 defeat for us at the Vestacare Stadium, a day we would ultimately like to forget. A first half hat-trick for West Didsbury and Chorlton’s striker, Andy Briggs put the visitors in position to go on and claim all three points.
As we struggle to find form at this moment in time, our opponents have found themselves winning their last four fixtures, including a highly impressive 4-0 win over Bury last time out. They currently sit 5th in the league as they to look for promotion this season.
We expect another very difficult test tonight due to our most recent affair with the Mancunian side as well as their recent form. But we hope that the work we have done since that defeat and the mistakes we have learned from will be enough to see us win the game and get one step closer to the final.
