MATCH PREVIEW: In form Chaddy turn attention to Burscough clash

Written by Jacob Jones.

There is no time for celebrations following Saturday’s dramatic penalty shootout win over Bury on Saturday as attention shifts back to North West Counties Football League action away at Burscough on Tuesday evening.

Although, one man who would certainly be forgiven for celebrating is the weekend’s penalty shootout hero, Morgan Bacon. The goalkeeper said, “I was very confident going into penalties knowing how good our penalty takers are as the lads who stepped up showed us that.”

Assistant Manager Mark Cook was also very impressed by what he saw on the weekend, he told us “The second half Bury changed shape and caught us cold getting in down our right-hand side before scoring, this gave us a different challenge and we had to stay in the game as the crowd got behind them but we always looked like we could score on the break”

We currently sit second in the NWCFL Premier Division table, having won five of our last six league games.

We also did the double over Burscough last season but both affairs were very tight, ending 2-1 and 3-2. Chadderton captain, Jordan Schofield “After a tough week of knockout football” expects another tough game, he says “last season we had two very close games against them and I’m expecting the same again.”

As for the home side, they find themselves fifteenth in the table, but they could jump up to ninth position with a win on Tuesday night.

Following their 1-1 draw against South Liverpool, Burscough manager David Dempsey described it as “a proper non-league game of football,” following that up by saying “both teams had goals chalked off that shouldn’t have been.”

It promises to be an intriguing clash tomorrow evening, with us now having the chance to move within two points of top of the league with a win.
