We continue our positive run of form with a 2-1 win on the road against Cheadle Town. This means we have now won all of our last five matches across all competitions.
Lewis Byrne once again found himself on the score sheet, twice this week. He was accompanied by Matty Crothers who’s second half strike ensured that we would leave Cheadle with an extra three points on the board.
When the lineups were announced, there were two main standouts, Bernard Wisdom starting after his impressive performance and goal earned him his place in the starting lineup. New signing, Jermaine Dickinson-Grant who was last seen scoring a hat trick against us in our Macron Cup clash with Bury a couple of weeks ago, made his way straight into the starting eleven.
It was a fantastic start as Lewis Byrne, who is in excellent goal scoring form as of late, put us ahead after fifteen minutes, meeting an incredibly inviting cross from man of the match Jacob Ngoy to give us the lead.
However, it wasn’t all positive news for us in the first half, as a dubious penalty decision was given Cheadle’s way, allowing them to level proceedings just before the half time interval.
We did not let this set back phase us though, in the second half a thunderous freekick from Lewis Byrne put us back in front and took Lewis’ tally for the game up to two.
The victory was later sealed by Matthew Crothers, grabbing his eleventh goal of the season to make it 3-1.
To make the victory even sweeter for us, Ramsbottom United dropped points away at Irlam meaning we have closed the gap on the top of the table to just four points as we continue on our pursuit of promotion.
